Anuradha Bhaumick is an interdisciplinary artist working with archival textiles, hand embroidery, and soft sculpture. She is also the founder of the clothing brand Sui Kapda Baagan. Through SKB, she rescues garment industry leftovers and deadstock fabrics, transforming discarded cloth into a canvas for hand embroidery and collective storytelling. Instead of letting these textiles head to a landfill, each piece is thoughtfully repurposed to carry a deeper purpose: proceeds directly fund The Savitribai Phule Memorial School in Darbhanga, Bihar, turning the art of stitching into a tool for education and social care.
Anuradha’s art has found homes across the globe, from the Bahamas to Germany, Nunavut to Japan. Since 2020, she has practiced as an independent artist, developing long-term, research-led embroidery and textile installation projects. These include Comfort Collages, Monn'er Golpo, Joy/Jharna (selected by the Goethe Institut for the 75 Years of Indian Independence programme), Sunder Phool Mandi (a 23-day collaborative installation with 50 participants), and Knots of Liberation (commissioned by Tree and Poetry, translating bell hooks' writing into embroidered form).
Her work has been exhibited at Method Gallery Mumbai, Museo Camera Gurugram, and Kynkyny Art Gallery Bangalore. Anuradha’s art has been profiled by Vogue, Vice, The Times of India, Elle, Hyperallergic, and The New Indian Express, amongst more, and published in Eva Minguet’s The Art of Embroidery (Monsa Publications, 2023), and Anne Kelly's Textile Portraits (Batsford, 2023).
Anuradha lives and works out of Bangalore and Ahmedabad in India. She learned embroidery at the age of five from her mother during a bout of chickenpox. In her free time, Anuradha cooks, reads, and swims. Her ultimate blueprint for life is simple: one rich with the company of rescue dogs, open seas, and wild greens.
